Hello and welcome. what you are about to try will be therapeutic, thoughtful, and beautiful. It’s a mindful act of caring about the moments in life and giving loving objects a second one. Let’s talk about those materials. I am taking a second hand vase, an old shift or blanket, in this case they are scraps from when I once had a small business where I sold really cute under garments, and flowers. Flowers your son picks out for you, flowers from your love, maybe a funeral or celebration of life …or marriage, maybe you just wanted fresh flowers that day.
A vase in my perspective reminds me a lot about the vessel that we are. The vessel that desires to pour out onto my neighbors that we are a vessel for a beautiful Creator. The overflows with a an idea that should be shared with an experience.
That scrap fabric you see, is also significant. The clothes on your body, the business idea that didn’t work out, that dress you never received or was not the right thing at all.
I want you to take a look at these materials. These materials were going to be thrown out, when they still have value and longevity in them.
Did you know, that the fashion industry is roughly responsible for 20% of our waste water? Notice how I said waste-water and not water-waste. Waste-Water is a material, water waste is a resource management issue. You see, wastewater is used water contaminated by human activity.
It takes almost 1,300 to 2000 gallons of water to make a pair of jeans. To put into perspective, taking a bath takes 35-40 gallons. I am not telling you this to make you feel ashamed, I tell you this because it would be a disservice not to. And, because I have something you can do about it!
It is a bit niche, but this only works if everyone considers to view and live life in a different way. In other words, I am here to give you another hobby. Just kidding, this is a fun, thoughtful activity that will bring a like-minded, artistic, sustainable community together. There is so much we can create in this workshop, and I’m really excited to share it with you.
Now I don’t want to overwhelm you. This method I am going to share with you has been tested and tried, and the only safe way I can provide you a pleasant experience. So what you see here, is not how I do my work, but very similar. I will have individual classes where you can learn how to preserve flowers with my method, whether they are your own or purchased from me.
Three things I want to go over with you before we jump in. Everything I’m about to tell you is what you paid for.
The flowers each individually have been preserved. They should not snap at you or fall apart with you as you handle it. It is okay if small seeds or parts of the flower come off, use it to your imagination!
The vases are not an adhesive surface when has a smooth surface. If you have gotten your nails done, you know that they have to file your nail so that it is rough enough for the glue to stick to both the nail and the extension or gel. The glue should dry quick and will not leave a glue stain after. If you have trouble, come find me or change your lamp color and I’ll come to you! Most of all, get to know one another, this is a special bunch of people to be here with you!
I strongly suggest you not fuse the flowers to the vase unless you feel confident about traveling with it home. If you do not, I am happy to take it and deliver it to you within the week.
For those that do not feel satisfied, I am more than happy to take it under my wing and complete it for you. It keeps me busy as an artist and it gives me an opportunity to add my final touches to your masterpiece.
There is a tea station and charcuterie over at the table, please help yourself, and for any photos/videos taken please send follow and send them to @consolatioartistry. Thank you and enjoy. We will be starting to wind down around 8:00 and should be done around 8:30.
Closing time:
What are some thoughts or conversations that arose with yourself, or with others around you? I'd like to know what you enjoyed about this workshop, what you may have learned, and if you would continue to do this yourself. Would you recommend others to take this workshop? What can I do better for next time?
Thank you for showing up, being here for the planet in such a creative and tranquil way.
